Johannesburg, RSA – South African performers, entertainers and music industry role players and influencers will pay tribute to the late legendary musician Robbie Malinga during the officially launch and opening of the inaugural Robbie Malinga Memorial Golf Day at the Killarney Country Club in Johannesburg on the 4th March 2022.
The event, which is organised by the RM Legacy Group led by Robbie’s wife, Ann and son, Robbie Malinga Junior (Rob Mally), in partnership with Epitome of Black Excellence (EBE) and Tabo Group is titled, ‘Robbie Malinga the Legend 1968 to 2017’, and will celebrate Robbie Malinga’s life and legacy in music four years after his death.
The Memorial Golf Day will also afford a handful of underprivileged male teenagers from different areas around Johannesburg an opportunity to share lunch and interact with the late Robbie Malinga’s son, Robbie Malinga Jnr a.k.a Rob Mally, as part of his recently launched Boy Child Initiative.
Rob Mally said they were also introducing The Boy Child Initiative to reach out to young boys in order to understand the challenges they face on a daily basis in their lives. He says “the initiative puts us right at the center and affords us an opportunity to affect real change in someone’s life especially a boy child who is mostly neglected in today’s society.”
During the official launched of the Robbie Malinga Memorial Golf Day, the late musician’s wife Ann also announced that the RM Legacy Group, would continue to follow in Robbie’s footsteps by helping the underprivileged and the people in need through various programmes in their non-profit organisation.
Representatives from various corporate entities and parastatals, including music industry executives, musicians and producers, who have worked and collaborated with Robbie Malinga, are expected to participate in the inaugural ‘Robbie Malinga the Legend 1968 to 2017’, as part of the ongoing efforts to keep the musician’s name and legacy alive.
One of the Robbie Malinga Memorial Golf Day event partners is the Epitome of Black Excellence that is also passionate about uplifting aspiring creative people and creating awareness about the Cancer disease and it’s effects on males.
Epitome of Black Excellence Joel Sekoala says they believe in investing in projects that involve enriching and developing lives within communities and playing a sustainable role in grooming the talents.

Keynote address delivered by Joel Sekoala to Ekurhuleni West College, at the Graduation Ceremony held at Transnet Hall, Esselen Park, Kempton Park, 20th May 2016, 10h00
This is your day, and you should be immensely proud. This special moment is the result of your hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to building a better future for your families and for South Africa. I thank the Chairperson of the Council and the Principal for recognising home-grown contributions to academic excellence. It is a privilege to address this graduation and awards ceremony, and I hope that today’s graduates will join the ranks of intellectuals, rounded practitioners, and professionals of high order.
Institutions of higher learning have the vital task of teaching relevant skills and producing graduates ready for the world of work. Education serves as a crucial instrument to restore the dignity of South African society after decades of oppression under apartheid. Our country faces three great threats—unemployment, inequality, and poverty—but through relevant education, we can overcome these challenges. The Department of Education has made strides in promoting non-racial, non-sexist, and inclusive education, and I plead with graduates to continue equipping themselves beyond graduation to advance nation-building.
There are two kinds of knowledge: general and specialised. General knowledge alone has little value in developing others or accumulating resources. Knowledge will not attract wealth unless it is organised and intelligently directed through practical plans of action. Many falsely believe that “knowledge is power,” but knowledge is only potential power—it becomes power only when organised into definite plans and directed toward a definite end. Graduates, you have acquired theoretical knowledge, but you now possess only potential power. Go out and apply what you have learned, and make those who supported you proud.
You have not finished schooling; this is just the first step. The person who stops studying is doomed to mediocrity. The way to success is the continuous pursuit of knowledge. Starting at the bottom can be discouraging and kill ambition, so it pays to start one or two steps above and keep your eyes open for opportunities. Success is guided by the choices we make—it is our decisions that shape who we are. Congratulations once again, and may your journey ahead be filled with purpose and achievement. First, the choice to act: will we be like driftwood, passively floating with the tides, or will we take proactive responsibility for our actions and destinations? Second, the choice of purpose—we all want to know that our lives matter and that we are pursuing worthwhile goals, not just business. As graduates, I hope my presence here ignites in you a greater passion to become a “transition person”—one who breaks the
flow of negative traditions and harmful practices passed from generation to generation. Transition persons transcend their own needs; they are lights, not judges; models, not critics; healers, not carriers. Today’s world desperately needs more of them, and you have already proven you have what it takes to be among the best.
We all wish life were not so difficult, but sometimes struggles are necessary to make us stronger. When we face hardships, we either let our situation define us or strengthen us—the choice is ours. The testing of faith produces steadfastness, and steadfastness makes us complete, lacking nothing. The wisest and most well-rounded people have known misery and defeat, yet they have found their way out of despair, gaining a deep appreciation and sensitivity to life. As graduates, you have absorbed knowledge from others, but now is the time to find your own voice so that others can emulate you. Unaware of your own brilliance, know that your struggles have given you an upper hand in this world.
There is a most insistent demand for new leaders across several fields. In politics, many have ignored service delivery and allowed corruption to flourish—our roads are full of potholes, clinics lack medicines, schools lack textbooks. We cannot speak of African renewal while some steal from the masses. In banking, public confidence has eroded due to overcharging and exploitative lending practices. In business, leaders must shift from focusing solely on dividends to prioritising human resources and seizing opportunities like those from the Industrial Development Corporation to generate jobs and reduce poverty. In religion, leaders must address the present economic and personal struggles of their followers. In the professions—law, medicine, and education—ethics and integrity must reign supreme, with more emphasis on practice than theory. In journalism, media must cease being propaganda tools for special interests. You have earned your qualifications, but you have also earned responsibilities.
I extend my deepest gratitude to the parents and teachers who made this day possible. Your tenacity and dedication have prepared these graduates for the nation. South Africa faces unemployment, poverty, and inequality, yet never in its history has it enjoyed such encouraging possibilities. Let us work together with one collective heartbeat to build a strong, resource-based nation. Everything changes, and successful people are those most compatible with change—so embrace it for greater growth. Whoever you are, wherever you are, be part of the rhythm of the nation.
